2016

International audience; In a globalized world, clusters, or territorial production systems, need to evolve into innovation systems to retain their competitive advantages and be able to develop. As a novelty, this article explains the innovation process from an institutional perspective, combining micro–meso–macro levels. The results confirm tha…

Young innovative companies (YICs) and entrepreneurship policy

2015

Abstract This study examines the features of young innovative companies (YICs) that enable their access to public policies in the form of subsidies. Through this analysis, the study determines the profile of YICs that receive public innovation aid. The study thus establishes whether governments design these innovation policies to adapt to the specific nature of YICs. Empirical analysis tests hypotheses for a sample of 189 YICs from the Valencian Region to analyze how the entrepreneur's features, the YICs themselves, and their sector relate to public innovation policies. The study also examines whether these variables act as moderating variables. Size of the YIC and the entrepreneur's sex si…

Does Promoting Homeownership Always Damage Labour Market Performances?

2018

In this paper we analyse the link between homeownership and various aggregate and individual labour market outcomes. Our aim is to investigate the likely consequences of public policies that promote homeownership. To this end, we develop a circular firm-worker matching model with Nash-bargained wage setting and free market entry. Homeowners are assumed to be less mobile than tenants and to bear higher mobility costs. Our numerical exercises show that tenants usually have lower unemployment rates and lower wage rates than homeowners. Importantly, workersʼ performances do not necessarily improve following an increase in the proportion of homeowners. The latter crucially depends on the relativ…

Critical incidents which limit performance of Chilean University rowers who won a medal in the Pan American Games of Lima 2019

2020

Main objective of this study was to provide a basis for the comprehension of the main critical incidents (i.e. obstacles) that Chilean rowers who were medallists in the Pan American Games of Lima 2019 have to face within the academic, socioeconomic and sports processes. 19 athletes were selected through a non-probabilistic sampling. This fact does not allow them to concentration and integral tranquillity to be focused…

Growth of citrus production among the Euro-Mediterranean countries: political implications and empirical findings

2013

The agricultural matter has always played an important role in holding back the Euro-Mediterranean integration process due to the strong complementarity of the agricultures of the coastal countries which share excellent products including citrus fruits. The main goal of this paper is to understand the growth dynamics of the citriculture in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Through the application of the dynamic formulation of the Shift and Share Analysis it has been possible to analyse the trend of the amount of harvested citrus production, in physical and economic terms, in the last fifteen years, and above all which components, structural and competitive, have mainly influenc…

Transparency and Disclosure in the Global Microfinance Industry

2014

Over the last couple of decades, the microfinance industry has enjoyed considerable positive public attention; however, more recently, the industry has been criticized for not really “helping the poor” and practicing low standards of transparency. In this chapter we discuss how transparency and disclosure work in relation to the key stakeholders in the microfinance industry: customers, donors, and owners. We provide a framework for assessing the demand for information: the need for transparency—and the corresponding supply of information: what is disclosed. We highlight current, or potential, market failures and their implication for public policy among customers, donors, and microbank owne…

Welfare State Development, Individual Deprivations and Income Inequality: A cross-country analysis in Latin America and the Caribbean

2019

Several scholars have confirmed the role that the welfare state (WS) plays in reducing poverty, promoting equality and ensuring the common wellbeing. One of the limitations of the scholarship has been the conceptualization and operationalization of the WS and poverty as one-dimensional variables. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between welfare state development –as a one-dimensional and multidimensional variable-, single-dimensions deprivations and income inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean, before and after controlling for demographic and cyclical factors. The WS is operationalized taking into account its multidimensional nature. Three individual deprivat…

Dynamic capabilities in e-health innovation: Implications for policies

2017

Abstract Objective To mitigate the effect of caregiver shortage, collaborative networks in Norwegian municipalities are exploring the possibilities provided by e-health and welfare technologies. However, extracting benefits from such technologies depends on many factors. Methods In this study, an extensive literature review is performed to compare e-health and other sectors in terms of the critical success factors in collaborative business process management. Using the dynamic capabilities view as a general theoretical lens, and a process orientation framework for operationalization, these factors are then conceptualized and validated in a cross-sectional study of cases in the Norwegian mun…
